With a small overall breed population, we all have a special role in the future of the Schapendoes in Canada. Whether it’s our breeders ensuring the future, or owners unknowingly promoting the Schapendoes on their daily walks and activities.

To get a breed recognized by the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC), the breed must meet a number of qualifications, including:

  • Having a national breed club in Canada
  • Being recognized by the registry of its native country
  • Having a population in Canada

The Schapendoes Club of Canada is the national breed club registered with the Canadian Kennel Club to ensure recognition of the breed. There are requirements from the CKC which must be met to ensure the continuous recognition of the Schapendoes breed in Canada. Among these requirements is to have an active Board of Directors and organize a national specialty at least every two years. Details of these requirements can be found on the CKC website.

The Schapendoes Club of Canada organizes events like picnics, walks and specialty shows for all Schapendoes lovers to get together to enjoy each other’s company and the love of our dogs.

The Schapendoes Club of Canada also publishes a newsletter to share events and accomplishments by Schapendoes’ across the country.
